Round the Bend Farm (RTB), a Center for Restorative Community, located in Dartmouth, Massachusetts is a working farm and educational non-profit. We are a living laboratory that cultivates, educates, and empowers people of all ages. Fog on the farm is such a beautiful thing. We are not short on moisture right now as Spring slowly creeps in on us. Farmers in the South Coast are often starting and ending their days in the fog, especially in the transition of seasons.This week our garden crew worked on mulching since the snow has finally melted. Mulching can help suppress weeds, prevent soil erosion and soil water loss, and increase soil organic matter. This hay mulch over a field of planted garlic will allow the garlic shoots to emerge while keeping weeds away 🧄

Can you guess what was hiding in the field under all that snow? 👀🥕 Carrots often taste better after a winter frost because the cold triggers the plant to increase its sugar content, as this prevents its cells from freezing. Here, Monie harvests purple carrots that were planted back in the fall!

Mushroom inoculation is a community building works

Mushroom inoculation is a community building workshop. This months Open Farm Day our Garden Manager Benoit will be spending the day teaching how we grow shiitake mushrooms here on the farm. This is great for all ages as Benoit is an amazing teacher and can simplify or dive deep into this process. Mark your calendars 3/21 and spread the word!
